New role created at Harrogate Integrated Facilities

January 2020

Harrogate Integrated Facilities has introduced the new role of Waste Porters at Harrogate District Hospital to give more of a focus on waste collection across the site, and help to reduce ‘clutter’ in corridors and in clinical areas.

Waste they’ll collect includes dirty linen, cardboard, broken furniture and clinical waste – pretty much anything! The team is currently made up of four colleagues, with the aim to get up to a team of six over the coming months. They work Monday-Friday, 6am-10pm and wear bright orange uniforms.

The roles have been planned for a while, but helpfully support the Trust’s #CleartheClutter campaign which aims to declutter the hospital environment.

The collection of waste was previously carried out by porters as part of their overall job but now they’re freed up to be patient-facing more of the time.
